So after typing this all out, finally being ready to publish it, my site decided delete it instead. SO, it’s a week late, but I was so frustrated that I had to walk away and find some chocolate and forget about it for a little bit. So let’s try this again? Here you go.
Since January of 2014, I have been in a baby making cycle. Have your attention? Let me explain! I got pregnant at the beginning of January in 2014 with my son, Bennett. I then adjusted to becoming a mom for the remainder of 2014. I became pregnant with my daughter in May of 2015 and she arrived in January of 2016. With having small children, comes the never ending juggling act of being a mom who is trying to meet the needs of two small children. We all know that there’s no manual or step by step Pinterest list with accompanying pictures on how to handle it all. It’s been a whirlwind to say the least. Then throw in running a business that continues to grow in the most wonderful and exciting ways.
I want to be honest though. Up until the end of 2017 and going into 2018 – it’s been survival mode. The sleepless nights and exhaustion that goes hand and hand with newborns. The two hard pregnancies that had me anti vomiting medicine for 40 weeks. The way my life changed SO drastically whenever I became a mom. When you have small children, you are often on their time schedule. At the end of 2017, I finally felt like I was finding my new groove. Two kids that sleep through the night, a predictable schedule, an overall new normal. It’s been nice and now I feel as though my feet are back on solid ground.
I’m ready. I’m inspired. I feel like I can balance it all again. So my first goal for 2018 was to create a work week schedule and eliminate the daily chaos.
As a business owner, we often feel like the to-do lists are longer than the hours in the day. There is ALWAYS something to do and we put an expectation on ourselves to always be doing something. It’s exhausting. It’s unrealistic. It results in burnout.
This year I wanted to create a work week in which I don’t feel burnout by the end of the year and that allows me to still be the mom that I want to be. I wanted balance.
So I wanted to share a general outline of the work week I created for myself.
Mondays
Mondays are my reset and plan days. I work almost every weekend and I naturally stay in my pajama’s on Mondays. I spend the day cleaning my house from the whirlwind of the weekend. I order my groceries (that’s an entirely separate blog post for the future), I plan sneak peeks for clients and I decided to start doing a motivational Monday post on my Facebook.
Tuesdays
Cull and blog. Tuesdays will be spent culling (selecting the images from a session in which I will edit) and blogging past sessions…. since we all know I’m still years behind.
Wednesdays
Cull (if needed)/ edit, edit, edit!
Thursdays
Edit & blog. This year though, I want to blog more (like this). So my goal is to post something every Thursday which can be related to business, being a mompreneur, photography etc.
Fridays
Fridays are like your Monday. It’s the start of my work week since I typically shoot Friday-Sunday (unless it’s a newborn). Fridays will involve me preparing for sessions along with office tasks that need to be done, like accounting.
Saturday & Sundays typically have sessions.
Every day also has a more detailed oriented list of time during the day to answer emails and to address all the other aspects of running a business.
Having a work week allows me to be present and attentive to whatever the current task is. No more playing with my kids and thinking, “Ugh… I should be doing XYZ for work”. There’s a time and place for everything and if you don’t have a time or a place…. create one.
Any other work at home mama’s have a schedule that you love? Or any tips you want to share? Post it in the comments! I would LOVE to hear it!
Seeking balance in 2018. <3
